Thousands of low-income seniors in Utah qualify for Medicaid’s New Choices Waiver—but cannot access it. To qualify, seniors must pay privately for assisted living for 12 months before Medicaid will begin coverage.
The Gap:
- Average Senior Income: $1,900/month
- Assisted Living Cost: $3,150/month
- Monthly Shortfall: $1,250
- Result: This challenge can prevent seniors from moving into the care environments where they would be safest and most supported.
Our Solution
The Golden Gap Foundation provides temporary financial assistance to bridge the $1,250/month gap—allowing seniors to access assisted living immediately. Once Medicaid takes over, our financial support ends.
